Stadium District Gives Packers
$10M For Lambeau Field Additions |
The Green Bay/Brown County (WI) Professional Football Stadium District yesterday agreed to "contribute $10[M] to a major addition to Lambeau Field," according to Richard Ryman of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. The plan "extends the plaza on the north side of the Atrium around the east side to the Oneida gate, replaces the current grade-level player parking with underground parking and moves the walkway through the east parking lot." Packers VP/Administration & General Counsel Jason Wied said that the project "addresses security issues and makes the stadium more convenient for fans." Ryman notes the project "would begin after the season and be completed before the first 2009 game." Wied estimated that the project will "cost between [$22-25M]," and the Packers "would pay the balance above the $10[M] supplied by the stadium district." With the new construction, fans "still will be able to observe players arriving at the field, and a glassed entryway would allow fans to watch players come from the parking garage to the player area." An area for autographs also will be included (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 7/31). In Milwaukee, Don Walker reports the project's "main goal is to reduce the bottleneck of fans during game days as they approach the stadium on the east side." No tax money will be used for the project (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/31).
