OKC Council Approves Final Plans For Ford Center Upgrades

Oklahoma City Council Approves Final Plans
For First Phase Of Ford Center Renovations
The Oklahoma City Council yesterday approved final plans for the first phase of a $100M renovation at the Ford Center, which includes "work that can be done during the NBA season," according to Bryan Dean of the DAILY OKLAHOMAN. The first phase is expected to cost about $3.2M and will include "renovating all the existing public rest rooms in the arena, a new rest room on the Ford Center's lower level and a new Irish-style pub on the lower level." Work will go on during the season, with the first phase of construction "scheduled to begin in September and be finished by February." Oklahoma City Special Projects Manager Tom Anderson said that "most of the work on the arena will begin next year after the NBA season." And the arena will be "closed for at least two months" during most of the major interior renovations. Later phases will include "new restaurants, locker rooms, suites, a family fun zone and a main entrance on the arena's south side." The city will "receive bids on the first phase of improvements" on August 19 (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 7/30).
