FSG In Talks With MLB Teams About Forming
Joint Venture To Promote Ballpark Concerts |
Fenway Sports Group President (FSG) and Red Sox COO Mike Dee said that FSG has had conversations with the Cubs, Brewers, Padres and MLB Giants about "forming a joint venture to buy and promote summer concerts at their ballparks," according to Don Muret of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Giants Enterprises President Pat Gallagher, whose group books non-baseball events at AT&T Park, said, "There's nothing formal or imminent." The teams hope to "book more concerts by joining together, similar to some members of the Gridiron Stadium Network, a group of 12 NFL and MLS teams and buildings." Dee: "The key to doing anything like this is scalability, promoting multiple shows in multiple places. If you go into the promoter business, you need critical mass. We’re at a point in our development where we wouldn’t do it in a small way, self-promoting one or two shows at our ballpark. There are partners we want to bring to the table" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/28 issue).
