Big changes out of MSG this morning with the announcement that NBA Senior VP/Team Marketing & Business Operations Scott O'Neil has been named President of MSG Sports as part of a reorganization. O'Neil will oversee all business operations for the Knicks, NHL Rangers, WNBA Liberty, as well as all other MSG sports properties. As part of the reorganization, current MSG Sports President & COO Steve Mills becomes MSG Sports Teams President of Business Operations, reporting to O'Neil. "Madison Square Garden is in a period of unprecedented growth and it is imperative that we have the strongest and deepest management team in place to drive our strategic plans," said MSG Vice Chair Hank Ratner in a prepared statement. O'Neil, 38, has worked for the NBA since '01. "I am looking forward to continuing to drive the expansion and growth of the sports properties, while building upon the business success of the Knicks, Rangers and Liberty, some of the most iconic brands in sports," O'Neil said. "My experience working with (Commissioner) David Stern and (Deputy Commissioner) Adam Silver at the NBA and their relentless pursuit of perfection has prepared me well for this opportunity." NBA Senior VP/Team Business Development Chris Granger will be promoted to Senior VP/Team Marketing & Business Operations, effective August 11.
