CAA has named former SCP Worldwide Partner and CSTV co-Founder Chris Bevilacqua as Chair & CEO of a new stand-alone sports partnership called CAA Sports Media Venture, where Bevilacqua will "help acquire and operate media companies," according to John Ourand in this week's SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The new unit, a partnership between CAA, Bevilacqua and Evolution Media Capital (EMC), will be "tasked with finding those opportunities." The group will "operate independently of CAA Sports." Bevilacqua will control two seats on the new group's BOD, with CAA controlling two and EMC one. Bevilacqua: "This gives us a terrific opportunity in the next couple of years, when we believe there will be good buying opportunities. There are quite a few undermanaged, undercapitalized media companies out there -- everything from cable networks to digital media to emerging wireless industry.” Ourand notes Bevilacqua will be based in N.Y. and "expects to have a half dozen employees working for the venture in the first year." The move "fits with CAA's growing sports business and gives it a greater focus on media" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/28 issue).
