Packers Give Positive Report On Finances At Shareholders Meeting

Packers' Two Home Playoff Games Helps
Team To Record Operating Revenue
The Packers Thursday at the team's annual shareholders meeting at Lambeau Field "gave a positive report on the team's finances," according to Kelly McBride of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. The Packers in June reported an operating revenue of $241M, an increase of almost 11%, and total operating expenses of $219.9M. Packers VP/Finance Vicki Vannieuwenhoven said that the $241M mark was "an all-time high" and added that the revenue "was enhanced as the result of the Packers' hosting two home playoff games." Vannieuwenhoven also said that operating expenses saw "a nearly 20[%] increase during the last year." Vannieuwenhoven said overall net from operations "was $21[M], down from the previous year" due to "rising costs in certain areas" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 7/25). Packers GM Ted Thompson said, "We are committed to a steady growth. We believe we're building on a very strong foundation. ... Our focus is to win, and win now" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/25).

FOUR-GOTTEN? In Green Bay, Pete Dougherty reports Thompson and Packers coach Mike McCarthy in their state-of-the-team reports "barely acknowledged" the situation involving former Packers QB Brett Favre. Thompson received "a solid show of support from a majority of the 9,375 shareholders when he was introduced," and "though there were plenty of shareholders wearing shirts and carrying signs supporting Favre, there appeared to be far more support for Thompson in the end" (GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE, 7/25). ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio said, “There was chanting in favor of Brett Favre, but … there was a standing ovation for Ted Thompson" (“NFL Live,” ESPN, 7/24). Packers President & CEO Mark Murphy said the team has "not made a decision yet on whether to cancel" the scheduled retirement of Brett Favre's No. 4 jersey in a halftime ceremony during the September 8 "MNF" season opener against the Vikings. Murphy: "But we're coming up to a point where we're going to have to make a decision pretty quickly" (AP, 7/24).
