TD Bank Has Not Decided On New
Name For TD Banknorth Garden |
In Boston, Ross Kerber reports TD Banknorth, which has agreed to change its name to TD Bank following a lawsuit, "has not decided what name it will put on" TD Banknorth Garden. Bank officials said that they "expect to decide on a name for the arena later this year." Any name "would include the word 'Garden.'" The arena is "allowed one name change under" the $6M a year rights deal signed in '04 (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/24).
GLOBAL VIEW: In Augusta, Stephanie Toone reported the Augusta-Richmond County (GA) Coliseum Authority (ARCCA) Tuesday approved hiring Global Spectrum to run James Brown Arena and Bell Auditorium starting on August 1. The ARCCA "will pay $10,000 a month in management fees and handle the bills." ARCCA attorney Edward Enoch said that Global Spectrum "will receive incentive pay at the end of the year if it brings in additional gross revenue" (AUGUSTA CHRONICLE, 7/23).
UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Royals VP/Ballpark Operations & Development Bob Rice said that the team "will close off nearly 6,000 seats from about third base to the left field foul pole after the Aug. 10 game to work on concourses behind those areas." Rice added that one project will involve the installation of "new acrylic flooring." Royals VP/Sales & Marketing Mark Tilson said that "about 500 dugout plaza seats behind home plate also will be closed off for construction of the new Diamond Club seating area." The entire stadium project, which is is scheduled for completion by Opening Day '09, includes "new concourses, concession stands, restrooms, and entertainment areas" (K.C. STAR, 7/23).
NOTES: Safeco Field's sections 311 and 312 for the August 5 Twins-Mariners game and the September 9 Rangers-Mariners game "will be peanut-controlled zones." All peanut products will be banned on those days, and Peanut products also "will not be sold at nearby concessions" (SEATTLE TIMES, 7/24)....Thomas & Mack Center Arena Dir Daren Libonati said that Affliction's second MMA promotion will be held at the venue. The arena, located on the campus of UNLV, is "in the shadow of the UFC's corporate offices" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 7/23)....The Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County (PA) yesterday approved "two funding requests to the state for $7.25[M] in grants for" Dick's Sporting Goods new HQs near Pittsburgh Int'l. Airport. The money "will be used for infrastructure improvements to the 116-acre site" (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 7/24)....The K.C. Star has clarified a July 7 story that "incorrectly compared Sprint [Center] seats to those of some other arenas." Sprint Center seats "are roughly the same dimensions as in those arenas" (K.C. STAR, 7/24).
