Notre Dame Orders Cease-And-Desist Of Ad Featuring Athletes

Notre Dame Orders Cease-And-
Desist Of Ad Featuring Its Athletes
Univ. of Notre Dame (ND) yesterday said that it sent a cease-and-desist letter to Boston-based Cellular Services Worldwide for its "impermissible use of images" of ND QB Jimmy Clausen and men's basketball F Luke Harangody in an online ad for cell phone ring tones, according to Brian Hamilton of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. The ad appeared on NDNation.com, and the Web site has since "severed its contract with Google, which placed the ad on the site." NDNation.com Owner Mike Coffey said that "attempts are made to screen for inappropriate content." Coffey also said that he sent a "missive to Google, alerting it that some advertisers are creating unnecessary angst over amateurism." The school expects that the letter will "satisfy any issues with the amateurism of both Clausen and Harangody" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/23).
