English Premier League club Liverpool co-Owner Tim Hicks said he has "reconciled" with Liverpool co-Owner George Gillett. The pair had "been at odds over the future ownership of the club." Gillett in March called the partnership "unworkable." But Hicks Tuesday said of Gillett, "I think we figured we're better off being friends and working together constructively and not let people in the media kind of drive wedges between us" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 7/16).

INSTANT CLASSIC: In Chicago, Jay Mariotti writes the January 1 Red Wings-Blackhawks NHL Winter Classic at Wrigley Field is a "creative chance to celebrate the survivalist bite of a Chicago winter amid some good, old, hungover fun, all in the name of hockey's dramatic recovery and meteoric popularity rise on the West Side." The game is a "must-attend spectacle for the ages." Mariotti writes Blackhawks management is the "most progressive in town, marketing with pride and verve and dropping big money on players this offseason" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 7/17).

NOTES: The Orioles for Sunday's home game against the Tigers at Camden Yards are offering a "We Win, You Win 2" promotion in which all fans in attendance "will get two complimentary tickets in the same seating category to any future nonprime game if the Orioles prevail" (Baltimore SUN, 7/17)....The NLL BOG yesterday unanimously approved the sale of the NLL Minnesota Swarm from Minnesota Sports & Entertainment (MSE) to former Denver-based Coram Inc. Chair, President & CEO John Arlotta. Arlotta's son, Andy, will be part-Owner of the team and will join the Swarm on a full-time basis. The Swarm will continue to play its home games at the Xcel Energy Center and MSE will support and provide the team with business services (Swarm).
