Packers File Tampering Charges Against Vikings With NFL

Packers Accuse Vikings Of Tampering With Favre
The Packers have filed tampering charges against the Vikings with the NFL "for alleged communication" with former Packers QB Brett Favre, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSPORTS.com. The Vikings "were informed late last week that the allegation is that Favre has had inappropriate dialogue with Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, a close Favre friend and former assistant coach with the Packers." League sources said that the Vikings "vehemently denied any wrongdoing and are awaiting the league's next step in the process." Should the NFL find the Vikings guilty of tampering, the team "could lose draft picks and/or face fines" (FOXSPORTS.com, 7/16). In Milwaukee, Don Walker notes, "At this point, investigators for the league will look into the matter and decide what, if anything, to do." A source said that the Packers "had provided evidence and information about the alleged contact," and that the Packers "feel the case against the Vikings is strong" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/17). ESPN’s John Clayton said Bevell "is a friend of Brett Favre’s and they certainly may have shared some conversations about his future, but not about the future coming to the Vikings” (“SportsCenter,” ESPN, 7/16). ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert wrote, "The whole issue could blow over without further incident, but at a time when the NFL is working overtime to maintain the integrity of the game, no one wants to be in the line of fire" (ESPN.com, 7/16).
