The Chargers have promoted Dir of Marketing Programs & Business Development A.G. SPANOS to Exec Officer, which places him directly under his father, President DEAN SPANOS, in the organization's business operations. CFO JEANNE BONK, COO JIM STEEG and CMO KEN DERRETT will now report to A.G. Spanos (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/16)....Trail Blazers parent company Vulcan Sports & Entertainment (VSE) named Blazers COO MIKE GOLUB Senior Advisor to VSE. VSE manages Microsoft co-Founder Paul Allen's sports holdings, and Golub will work closely with the Blazers, Seahawks and MLS Seattle Sounders to integrate and coordinate the franchises under the VSE umbrella. Golub will develop marketing and community initiatives for the Seahawks in Portland, as well as working on new VSE sports initiatives (VSE).
SPURS: Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SSE) has promoted Exec VP/Finance & Corporate Development RICK PYCH to President of Basketball Operations, Senior VP & GM R.C. BUFORD to President of Sports Franchises, Senior VP/Broadcasting LAWRENCE PAYNE to Exec VP/Corporate Partnerships & Broadcasting and VP/Finance LORI WARREN to Senior VP/Finance & Corporate Administration. SSE also named Spurs coach GREGG POPOVICH Spurs President. Buford will continue as Spurs GM, and Popovich will continue to serve as Spurs coach (SSE).
EXECS: Yahoo promoted Yahoo Sports VP & GM JIMMY PITARO to Yahoo Sports & Entertainment VP & GM. Pitaro will oversee Yahoo's TV, music, movies, women's, kids and celebrity gossip channels on top of existing sports and games responsibilities (Eric Fisher, SportsBusiness Journal)....Procter & Gamble (P&G) Global Marketing Officer JIM STENGEL is leaving the company after 25 years to pursue other interests, effective October 31. Stengel will be succeeded by P&G President of Strategy, Productivity & Growth MARC PRITCHARD. Stengel "may have a role" at marketing company the Purpose Institute, which is being created by Omnicom Group's GSDM Idea City (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 7/16)....Mandalay Entertainment Group named ART MATIN CEO of its sports entertainment division. Most recently, Matin was CEO of the digital jukebox venture Touch-Tunes Music Corp. Matin will be based in N.Y. and will split his time between there and Mandalay’s L.A. HQs. Current execs JON SPOELSTRA, President & Managing Dir of Professional Sports Franchises, and RICHARD NEUMANN, President of Baseball Development, will report to Matin (Eric Fisher, SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/14 issue)....NHL Panthers Dir of Player Development DUANE SUTTER is leaving to join the Flames as Dir of Player Personnel, reporting to his brother, GM DARRYL SUTTER. The Panthers promoted Pro Scout JACK BIRCH to Dir of Player Personnel to replace Sutter (PALM BEACH POST, 7/14)....The MLS Houston Dynamo named MIKE BOVE Dir of Ticket Operations, ANDREW SINGER Client Services Coordinator, FREDDY TUGGLE Player Appearance Coordinator and CRISTIAN ESCUDERO Senior Account Exec in Corporate Sales (Dynamo)....The Blackhawks named ADAM ROGOWIN Coordinator of Media Relations (Blackhawks).
