Basketball HOFer BILL RUSSELL is writing a memoir on his relationship with late Celtics President RED AUERBACH titled, "RED AND ME." The book will be published by HarperCollins and is scheduled for a spring '09 release (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/15).

Barrera Severs Ties With Golden Boy Promotions
NAMES: Blackhawks President John McDonough has been named Executive of the Year by the Chicago Baseball Cancer Charities (CHICAGOSPORTS.com, 7/14)....The second D. Wade Sports Grill, named for Heat G DWYANE WADE, closed last weekend. Wade's reps declined to comment on the restaurants (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 7/15)....The final script on the movie "THE MAGICIAN," documenting the life of former NFLer MARLIN BRISCOE, the league's first African-American QB, is "close to completion." The movie, set for an '09 release, is "still in the casting phase and shooting is set to start later this year" (ESPN.com, 7/14)....Golden Boy Promotions and boxer MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA have ended their relationship, with Golden Boy releasing Barrera from his promotional contract and Barrera agreeing to give up his position as Partner in the company (Golden Boy)....Gaylord Sports Management (GSM) has signed an agreement to coordinate marketing efforts for Rahal-Letterman Racing co-Owner BOBBY RAHAL (GSM).

IN MEMORY: Churchill Downs and Ellis Park track announcer LUKE KRUYTBOSCH was found dead yesterday in his apartment in Indiana at the age of 47. The cause of death was "likely coronary-related." Kruytbosch began calling races at Churchill in '99 (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 7/15)....Former L.A. Daily News Assistant Sports Editor and sportswriter MATT MCHALE has died at the age of 50. McHale, who was diabetic, had "battled various illnesses" since leaving the paper in February (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 7/15).
