BOCOG Sets Rules For Spectators At Beijing Games Venues

BOCOG Releases "Spectators'
House Rules" For Beijing Games
BOCOG has released their "Spectators' House Rules" for the Beijing Olympics, "the latest step in a bid to ensure that the event proceeds without anything that could embarrass its Chinese hosts," according to Jane Macartney of the LONDON TIMES. As part of the rules, authorities will be "prohibiting all banners larger than 2m by 1m and said that these would be checked at the entrance." These same rules "apply to flags, with a ban on those of non-participating members of the Olympics." The rules also "ban gambling, sit-ins, demonstrations, drunkenness, and streaking." Additionally, parents "will be encouraged not to bring babies," and "the 'f-word', commonly heard on the streets of Beijing," will be forbidden (LONDON TIMES, 7/15). State broadcaster CCTV reports the rules are "aimed at maintaining security at Games venues." Under the rules, spectators are also "not allowed to carry guns, explosives or fireworks into the venues." Also not allowed in will be "soft drink bottles, musical instruments, whistles and radios" (CCTV.com, 7/15).
