Green, Gold & Sold: EA Unlikely To Change Favre "Madden" Cover

EA Likely To Keep Favre On
Cover Of "Madden NFL 09"
EA Sports Senior Dir of Marketing Chris Erb said there are no current plans to change the cover of the forthcoming "Madden NFL 09," which features Brett Favre in a Packers uniform. Favre is seeking his release from the Packers, and while the club does not intend to grant that release, speculation remains heavy that the future HOFer could play elsewhere via a trade. The popular videogame is currently in physical production for an August 12 release. "Our putting Brett on the cover wasn't just about this year, but about his legacy and career and the 20 years of 'Madden,'" Erb said. "If he's playing somewhere else, and our fans really want a different cover, maybe that's something we consider later on down the line. But right now, I can't imagine Brett being on the cover in anything but a Packer uniform." Never before has the current "Madden" cover athlete played for a different team than the one depicted on the game box. "This is really a first for us. Usually at this time of year, there's all the talk about the cover jinx with our cover athlete. This is certainly a different kind of conversation. But his wanting to come back is a huge positive. I don't see any downside with his wanting to play again," Erb said.
