Army-Navy Matchup May Move Venue, Gain Corporate Sponsorship

Army, Navy Open To Moving
Football Game To New Locations
Navy AD Chet Gladchuk told the school's Board of Visitors on July 8 that a "bidding process among cities for future Army-Navy games would begin within weeks," according to Chris Amos of the NAVY TIMES. Gladchuk "did not say what specific criteria officials would use in selecting a city," but he said that cities "must agree to pay for transporting the entire Naval Academy and West Point student bodies -- some 8,000 students -- to the game." The annual game has been played in Philadelphia "for most of its 118-year history." Meanwhile, Gladchuk said that Navy is "open to corporate sponsorship of the game." Gladchuk: "In terms of being innovative and looking for new ways to generate revenue, this is a gold mine. ... We are taking a good hard look at what we can generate supplementally to support it" (NAVY TIMES, 7/14 issue). Gladchuk added that Philadelphia and Baltimore are "expected to be among the cities bidding" for the game in 2010 and beyond. Other possible bidders include Dallas, East Rutherford, San Diego and Seattle (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 7/15).
