Ramirez Receiving $10,050 From
Massachusetts Abandoned Property Fund |
Massachusetts Treasurer TIM CAHILL in a statement Tuesday said that Red Sox LF MANNY RAMIREZ is "getting $10,000 from the state's abandoned property fund." In Boston, Martin Finucane reported the abandoned funds were "reported to the treasury in November 2007," and Ramirez was "one of several well-known people listed on the treasurer's semi-annual unclaimed money list." The treasurer's office said that Ramirez was "due money from a check from Reebok International Ltd. that he never cashed -- and he will receive an extra $49.56 in interest." Actors BEN and CASEY AFFLECK and U.S. Secretary of State CONDOLEEZZA RICE also are owed small amounts (BOSTON.com, 7/8).
HELP ME HELP YOU: In Detroit, Fred Girard reports the Univ. of Michigan (UM) yesterday agreed to "finance the bulk" of UM football coach RICH RODRIGUEZ' $4M settlement with his former employer, West Virginia Univ. UM AD BILL MARTIN said that Rodriguez will "pay $1.5[M] personally, and Michigan's independently financed athletic department will put up the remaining" $2.5M. UM also will "pay Rodriguez's legal fees, which have yet to be determined" (DETROIT NEWS, 7/10).
CHARITY STRIPE: Twins C JOE MAUER "quietly spent nearly $15,000 to provide new uniforms for players and coaches" for Saturday's high school football All-Star Game between the St. Paul and Minneapolis City Conferences (ST.
