Recent Flooding At Lucas Oil Stadium
Work Site Will Not Delay August Opening |
The "mysterious failure of several drainpipes" at the Colts' new Lucas Oil Stadium Tuesday night "caused damage to its phone and Internet communications nerve center that will take weeks to repair, but extra workers will be brought in to make sure the venue opens on time," according to Mary Beth Schneider of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. About three feet of water flooded parts of the stadium when "three of 20 drainpipes failed." The "worst of the damage occurred in the data center, affecting equipment related to the stadium's phone, Wi-Fi and Internet systems." No damage estimates were available, but Indiana Stadium & Convention Building Authority Exec Dir John Klipsch said that he "expects insurance will cover most of the costs." The drainpipes were repaired yesterday and the water was "mopped up." Klipsch added that most of the building was "untouched, including the retractable roof, scoreboards, video and sound systems, playing field, suites and arena seats." Lucas Oil Stadium is set to open August 16 and Klipsch said, "We'll be ready to open." Schneider notes to "make sure that happens, some construction crews were shifted temporarily to storm cleanup, and additional workers are being brought in" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 7/10).
