Kraft Group Studying Viability Of Potential Revs Facility

Kraft Group Commissions Feasibility Study
For Soccer-Specific Stadium For Revolution
The Kraft Group's interest in building a soccer stadium for its MLS Revolution in Somerville, Massachusetts, "is intensifying," according to Scott Van Voorhis of the BOSTON HERALD. The group is "shelling out $150,000 toward a study of the development potential of Somerville's largely industrial Brickbottom and Inner Belt districts." Their study is "expected to look at a number of possible uses for the 120 acres, including [an MLS] stadium." Patriots Exec Dir of Media Relations Stacey James said, "There have been some initial discussions. The next step is to see the viability." James added that the Kraft Group is also "looking at other development sites in other communities." The Kraft Group's study "has new urgency because state transportation officials recently rolled out plans for an extension of the [MBTA] Green Line trolley into Somerville." These extension plans "sparked concern among city officials, who would rather see the site dramatically overhauled with everything from a soccer stadium to a biotech complex" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/9). James said, "The Kraft Group has been contacted by officials from multiple municipalities regarding development opportunities. We have had preliminary discussions with Somerville regarding a development project that could potentially include a multi-use soccer stadium" (SOMERVILLE NEWS, 7/7).
