Book Shelf: Ex-SI Writer Jeff Pearlman Writes About Clemens

Former SI writer JEFF PEARLMAN recently sold to HarperCollins Publishing a biography titled, "ROGER CLEMENS: THE RISE AND FALL OF A LEGEND." The book is being billed as a "meticulously researched investigation" of Clemens, whose "unparalleled rise from small-town poverty to seven-time Cy Young Award winner has been tainted by accusations of performance-enhancing drugs and myriad infidelities" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/1).

 
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME: Winthrop Univ. librarians BOB GORMAN and DAVID WEEKS have released a new book titled, "DEATH AT THE BALLPARK: A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF GAME-RELATED FATALITIES, 1862-2007," which documents more than 800 deaths at baseball games. In Charlotte, Dan Huntley wrote the book is written for "people who love baseball, particularly those fans who revel in the sport's quirky minutiae" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 6/29).

MORE BOOKS: New Chapter Press yesterday released "THE BUD COLLINS HISTORY OF TENNIS," a compilation of articles written by Collins. The 784-page book retails for $35.95 (THE DAILY)....In N.Y., Holly Brubach wrote author CARL HIAASEN's new book, titled "THE DOWNHILL LIE," details Hiaasen's "hilarious misadventures on the golf course" which are "all too familiar to anyone who has ever flailed at the ball in futile attempts to conquer a sport that mercilessly strips us of our dignity" (N.Y. TIMES BOOK REVIEW, 6/29)....Former IU AD RICK GREENSPAN as part of his June resignation agreed not to sue the school, but Greenspan "retains rights to any book he may wish to write and publish" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 7/1).
