Great Scot: Scottish Premier League Agrees To Record TV Deal

Scottish Premier League Inks Four-Year,
US$250M Extension Of TV Deal With Setanta
The Scottish Premier League (SPL) has inked a four-year, US$249.5M extension of its TV deal with Setanta that will "double the money for the country's top 12 clubs," according to Phil Gordon of the LONDON TIMES. The new deal will "extend the present partnership from the start of the 2010-11 season through to the end of the 2013-14 campaign, with 60 live games to be shown each season throughout Britain and Ireland." The "principal beneficiaries will be the managers in the top flight who will share in the annual television revenue" of US$62.4M beginning with the 2010-2011 season. SPL Chair Lex Gold said that the money "will continue to be distributed according to each club's final league position" (LONDON TIMES, 7/1). Gold added the deal "marks the biggest ever TV deal in Scottish football history." Gold: "This will allow clubs to re-invest to make the Scottish game even stronger" (London TELEGRAPH, 7/1).
