Spain-Germany Euro 2008 Final Sets Ratings Records On Spanish TV

Euro 08 Final Sets TV Ratings Records In Spain
Spanish broadcaster Sogecable's Cuatro channel Sunday for Spain's 1-0 victory over Germany in the Euro 2008 final averaged 14.5 million viewers and an 81% share, setting "all-time records for Spanish television," according to Rolfe & Roxborough of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The last minute of the game drew more than 17.7 million viewers in Spain, an 88.6% share, marking the "most-watched minute ever in Spanish history." German broadcaster ARD for the game drew 26 million viewers and an 80% share, falling "about 3.5 million short of the record ratings for the tournament," set by sister net ZDF during the Germany-Turkey semifinal last Wednesday (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 7/1). TSN for its coverage of Spain-Germany averaged 1.01 million viewers in Canada, marking the most-watched Euro game ever on the net (TSN).

MLB NOTES: YES Network’s telecast of Yankees-Mets last Friday earned a 5.7 area rating with 533,000 viewers, making it the second-highest rated and second-most watched regular-season Subway Series game ever on a N.Y.-based RSN behind a 6.2 with 589,000 viewers for a YES telecast on May 18, 2007. With WPIX-CW earning 494,000 viewers for the same game, YES' telecast marks the first time a N.Y. RSN outdrew a N.Y. over-the-air net for the same regular-season Subway Series game (YES)....Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia averaged a 5.8 rating for its Phillies coverage during June, up 26% from May. Ratings for the net's "Phillies Pre-Game Live" and "Phillies Post Game Live" are up 100% and 35%, respectively, over last month (CSN)....FSN K.C. for Friday's Cardinals-Royals game earned a 6.3 rating, marking the net's highest rating of the season for the Royals. The game also drew the "highest rating for any channel in prime time" in K.C. for the night. The net's previous high for a Royals game this season was a 6.0 for Yankees-Royals on April 9 (K.C. STAR, 7/1).

NOTES: NBC Sunday for its coverage of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field and Swimming Trials averaged a 1.6/5 preliminary national rating in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall from 7:00-9:00pm ET, "pulling ahead in key demos" during the 8:00pm hour (DAILY VARIETY, 7/1)....ESPN2's live coverage of Wimbledon through Friday has averaged 490,733 HHs, up 18% from 417,481 HHs for live coverage through the same amount of dates in '07 (THE DAILY).
