Greeting Card: NBA's Steve Grimes Leaving To Go To Topps

Grimes Leaving NBAE
To Join Topps Co.
NBA Entertainment VP/Interactive Services STEVE GRIMES is leaving the company to become Chief Digital Officer at The Topps Company Inc. Grimes, who joined the league in February '05, played a key role in the '06 redesign of NBA.com and the massive enlargement of video content on the site and elsewhere on the Internet, efforts that manifested themselves this past season in record traffic and video streams on NBA.com. Grimes said he had offers to stay with the league, but he was not particularly interested in moving to Atlanta, where large portions of the NBA’s digital efforts are headed following the league’s deepened alignment with Turner Sports. Grimes’ last day at the league will be Monday. Turner has been pursuing an NBA digital chief since early this year. “I absolutely loved working at the league, but it’s not every day MICHAEL EISNER calls looking for you,” Grimes said, referring to the former Disney Chair & CEO who purchased the storied card company last year. “There’s a lot of things we’re going to pursue in the digital realm that will try to reconnect young fans with Topps in the same sort of way prior generations have with physical cards. It’s not quite a blank canvas, but close, and very exciting.”
