On Long Island, Neil Best cited three sources that indicated NFL Network has hired NFL Giants radio broadcaster Bob Papa as its play-by-play announcer, replacing Bryant Gumbel, who held the job for the previous two seasons. Papa also calls boxing for HBO. Most of the net's games are on Thursday and "will not conflict with his Giants or boxing duties" (NEWSDAY.com, 6/25). AWFUL ANNOUNCING's Brian Powell wrote of Papa, "Not a bad choice in the least, and it's good that they finally have someone to get ready for the season" (AWFULANNOUNCING.BLOGSPOT.com, 6/25).

Illini To Be Focus Of Second Season
Of BTN's "The Journey" Series
INCREDIBLE JOURNEY: In Chicago, Teddy Greenstein reports Big Ten Network (BTN) officials today are expected to announce that the Univ. of Illinois football team will be featured in the second season of the reality series "The Journey." The first season centered on the Univ. of Minnesota men's basketball program. The first installment of "Illinois Football: The Journey" will air as an hour-long episode on September 2. The series is "slated for 10 to 13 episodes, most 30 minutes long" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/26).

NOTES: Image Impact has signed a two-year deal with the LPGA to analyze brand placement options for tour sponsors and corporate partners in LPGA telecasts on ESPN2 and the ADT Championship telecast (Image Impact)....TiVo has reached a deal with marketing research firm TRA to "gauge how its user base makes household purchasing decisions based on ad exposure." TRA will "meld TiVo audience research data with TRA's Media TRAnalytics service" (MEDIAPOST.com, 6/25).
