Woods Expected To Recover Fully; PGA Tour Could Use His Presence

Woods Expected To Attend His AT&T National
Following Reconstructive Knee Surgery

Golfer Tiger Woods yesterday underwent reconstructive surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left knee, and his surgeon Dr. Thomas Rosenberg said it is "highly unlikely that Mr. Woods will have any long-term effects as it relates to his career," according to Jeremy Fowler of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. Fans can "expect to see Woods" next week at the PGA Tour AT&T National, his own tournament, where he will "make an appearance and be involved in the public-relations side" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 6/25). In Louisville, Eric Crawford writes Woods "could use his immense influence and profile to help promote" the PGA Tour in his absence. Woods "could be as gracious in his comments about those still playing as they have been in their comments about him." If he could "add this shot, he could go from being the most respected player in the game to, perhaps, one of the most beloved." For all the "good Woods has done for golf, he has not been what you could consider an ambassador for the game away from the course." The game "needs to see more from him in his absence than commercials" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 6/25). Woods during his recovery “will continue to be closely involved” with Nike Golf in “product launches, special events and by providing ongoing insight to Nike’s R&D teams” (“Golf Central,” Golf Channel, 6/24). Woods Sunday night was seen at The Bank nightclub at Bellagio in Las Vegas, "smoking a cigar and enjoying the company of some galpals" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 6/25).
