Monahan To Become
The Players Exec Dir |
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) Exec VP/New Business Development JAY MONAHAN is leaving his post to become Exec Dir of The Players Championship, according to Jim McCabe of the BOSTON GLOBE. Monahan, who will move to the PGA Tour's HQs in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, said, "I have lived [in the Boston area] and worked here all my life, but it's an opportunity that I felt I couldn't pass up." Monahan had served as Championship Dir of the Deutsche Bank Championship (DBC) after the PGA Tour announced plans to return to the Boston area in '03. Monahan remained at the DBC until late '05, at which time he joined FSG to "lead the business development team as it moved into marketing avenues in sports and entertainment." While at FSG, Monahan "maintained close ties in helping to market" the DBC while also representing PGA Tour golfer BRAD FAXON in business deals. Monahan: "The opportunity to have a positive impact on the PGA Tour is too good to pass up" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/25). Monahan is replacing RON CROSS, who was hired in April as Dir of Corporate Affairs by Augusta National Golf Club (BOSTON HERALD, 6/25).
