Official Says Construction On New RSL
Stadium Nearing 80% Completion |
In Salt Lake City, Rebecca Palmer writes ticket prices for "VIP" guests at MLS Real Salt Lake's (RSL) new stadium will "far exceed the pricing at Rice-Eccles Stadium," where RSL currently plays. However, RSL Chief Ticketing Officer Kris Katsaenes said that for 80% of the 20,000 seats, prices "will be comparable." Meanwhile, Layton-Turner Construction Project Manager Jake Greenland said that the stadium "is about 80[%] complete." The stadium "will be nearly complete by the stadium's first game Oct. 9 and finished by late fall." The club area at the stadium, "which includes an outdoor patio, is ready for finish work, and the suites are being prepared for customization." The two-story owner's suite "will have private bathrooms, a stairway and an outdoor platform just above the players' midfield entrance." "VIP" guests also "will have special parking and their own entrance on the stadium's southwest side" (DESERET NEWS, 6/24).
HORSEPLAY: NYRA officials yesterday confirmed that 30 to 35 of Saratoga Race Course's 359 coveted box seats have been reclaimed to "sell or rent at vastly increased prices." NYRA Senior VP/Sales & Marketing Development Gavin Landry said that the newly vacant five-seat boxes "will cost about $9,600 this year, up from $6,700 in" '07. However, boxes that "don't change hands will not increase in price." Additionally, NYRA "announced a slew of new partnerships, sponsorships and 'creature comfort improvements'" at the track. Among the additions will be "'Restaurant Row,' a vending area containing five city-based restaurants" (Albany TIMES UNION, 6/24).
SAFE FROM FLOODS: In Iowa, Jeff Johnson wrote Veterans Memorial Stadium, the home of the Single-A Midwest League Cedar Rapids Kernels, "stands on high ground and was untouched by the Cedar River overflow." But the Single-A Midwest League Quad Cities River Bandits "have lost two home games to flooding." However, their ballpark, Modern Woodmen Park, is "fine, thanks to berms built along the outfield" (Cedar Rapids GAZETTE, 6/22).
