Four Grand Prix Lions were awarded Saturday at the final prize ceremony at the 55th Int'l Advertising Festival in Cannes, France. Top Film winners were Cadbury's "Gorilla" by Fallon, London, and Xbox's "Believe" by T.A.G./McCann Worldgroup, S.F., in support of the "Halo 3" videogame. The "Halo" ad also won the Integrated Grand Prix award. Agency of the Year honors went to BBDO, N.Y., with Almap BBDO, Sao Paulo, and DDB, London, coming in as runners up (ADWEEK.com, 6/21).

WALK IN THEIR SHOES: In N.Y., O'Keeffe & Gagne wrote streetballer Corey Williams last week released his signature 187 shoe at Foot Locker stores nationwide. The shoe, which retails for $65, is "named after the police code for murder." But Williams, the first streetballer to have his own shoe, "isn't worried about any negative connotations the shoe's name will send." Williams: "If you really understand what playground basketball is about ... it's just about outplaying somebody on the court" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/21)....In Detroit, Drew Sharp wrote of the new limited-edition Rasheed Wallace Nike Air Force I basketball shoes, which are $225, "How ridiculous was it that Wallace targeted the inner-city Detroit urban market when he introduced his new shoe earlier this month?" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 6/21).
LADIES HAVE THE HONORS: LPGA golfer Morgan Pressel is sponsored by Ralph Lauren and she said that she "chose a classic look" to wear this year. Pressel: “We know on the LPGA Tour that we are judged by our clothes. What you wear says a lot about you.” LPGA golfer Christina Kim has a deal with apparel maker Lija and added, "We all compare notes on what works in clothing. There are so many little extra things, like brightly colored caps, that we can add for flair and style. It’s not like the men’s tour” (N.Y. TIMES, 6/23)....Prudential Financial has extended its sponsorship of the LPGA’s weekly MVP award, the Prudential Rock Solid Performer, through '09. The company receives verbal and graphic impressions during the LPGA-owned ADT Championship, and LPGA events telecast on ESPN2 (Jon Show, SportsBusiness Journal).
ROUNDUP: The WALL STREET JOURNAL’s Lattman & McCracken reported Steve & Barry’s “is racing to find rescue financing of about” $30M. Several creditors said that if the company is unable to secure backing, it “could seek protection from creditors sometime in the next month.” Steve & Barry’s has locations in 40 states and is currently “hawking exclusive fashion lines," including WTA member Venus Williams' EleVen (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 6/21)....Save Mart Supermarkets has signed a multi-year agreement to continue as co-title sponsor of the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. Save Mart has been either title sponsor or co-title sponsor of the event since '92 (SMI).
