National Series Of Half Marathons Set To Launch In November

Dallas-based U.S. Road Sports & Entertainment Group is "launching a national series of races known as 13.1 Marathon series that will give runners and walkers a chance to participate in a stand-alone half marathon," according to Sharon Robb of the South Florida SUN-SENTINEL. The 13.1 Marathon events, which will be limited to 2,000-5,000 participants, will be "positioned as training races for those who are preparing to run local or national marathons." The inaugural race is on November 16 in Ft. Lauderdale and will be produced by Miami-based PR Racing, which runs the ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon. Other planned sites for the 13.1 Marathon series include Miami in March '09, Chicago and Atlanta, "all cities recognized for their growing running communities." The 13.1 Marathon series is the "first new event added to the family of events produced by U.S. Road Sports, which owns ING Miami Marathon, ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon, Banco Popular Chicago Half Marathon, Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Running Series" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 6/19).
