Charleston RiverDogs' Veeck To Sell Ownership Interest In Team

Single-A South Atlantic League Charleston RiverDogs part-Owner Mike Veeck is "selling his ownership interest" in the team, but he expects to remain President of the club, according to Gene Sapakoff of the Charleston POST & COURIER. Final transfer and division of Veeck's share is "just a matter of sorting out details." Disputes with fellow MiLB execs who "object to Veeck's zeal for independent league baseball drove him out." Veeck: "I'm just tired of the board of trustees (in various baseball minor leagues) screaming about the independent league teams. Everybody will tell you it's not getting worse. I think it is." Veeck invested in the team via the Goldklang Group, for which he serves as President. Veeck will remain part of the Goldklang Group, but will "sever his ties with three of the group's minor league clubs that have big league affiliations," the RiverDogs, the Single-A Florida State League Fort Myers Miracle and the Single-A NY-Penn League Hudson Valley Renegades, while "continuing to own parts" of the independent Northern League St. Paul Saints and Sioux Falls Canaries (Charleston POST & COURIER, 6/11).
