MLS Attendance Up 5.6% Through June 9

MLS through June 9 is averaging 15,951 fans per match, up 5.6% from the same period a year ago, with an international friendly as part of a double header at Gillette Stadium helping the cause. The Galaxy are again leading the league in average attendance, up 5.4% at The Home Depot Center, while co-tenant Chivas USA are down 16.7%. Second-year club Toronto FC continues to pack BMO Field to over 100% capacity and has seen a slight attendance gain from the year-ago period. The following lists club-by-club MLS attendance through June 9, with comparisons to the same period last season (THE DAILY).

NOTES: * = Earthquakes are an '08 expansion team. MLS totals include attendance for the June 6 doubleheader at Gillette Stadium involving FC Dallas-Revolution and Brazil-Venezuela. Additionally, the Wizards are playing this season at 10,000-seat CommunityAmerica Ballpark, a minor league baseball facility located across the state line in Kansas City, Kansas while its home field Arrowhead Stadium undergoes a $375 million renovation. The Wizards had the lowest attendance in the league last season, averaging 11,586 fans per game.
