Marlins Talking To Hunt/Moss
About Building New Ballpark
MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro reports the Marlins Construction Manager Selection Committee “has unanimously voted to proceed to the negotiation stage with Hunt/Moss” to build the Marlins’ new retractable-roof ballpark. Hunt/Moss will work with HOK Sport, the ballpark’s design architect (MLB.com, 6/11).

MINOR DETAILS: The Burnsville (MN) City Council yesterday reviewed plans for a proposed $27M, 7,200-seat ballpark for the independent Northern League Metro Millers. The ballpark would host about 48 games for the Millers, college and high school games, and practice and exhibition games. The project also could include an “8-acre stadium village with commercial and retail businesses, a hotel and a water garden” (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 6/11).

SPRING FLING: In Boston, Nick Cafardo reported the Red Sox “were approached by the city of Vero Beach about moving their spring training operation to the former Dodgertown.” However, the Red Sox “declined the offer and will continue to pursue a future home with Lee County and Sarasota.” The Red Sox are reportedly “trying to negotiate a 10,000- to 12,000-seat stadium with standing room for about 1,500” (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/8).

LAST REUNION: In Dallas, Dave Levinthal writes the Dallas City Council yesterday "unanimously recommended closing Reunion Arena by month’s end and preparing the 28-year-old facility for demolition.” While the full City Council later this month “must approve the recommendation, such a move appears mere formality” (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/11).
