ABC Earns 8.5 Fast National Rating For Lakers-Celtics Game Two

Lakers-Celtics Game Two Sees Ratings Gains
ABC's coverage Sunday night of Lakers-Celtics NBA Finals Game Two earned a 8.5 fast national Nielsen rating, up 51.8% over a 5.6 for the comparable Spurs-Cavaliers Game Two last year. Sunday's game averaged 13,491,000 viewers, marking a 57.8% increase over 8,551,000 for the '07 Game Two, and Lakers-Celtics averaged 9,535,000 HHs, up 52.9% over 6,235,000 HHs last year. Ratings for the broadcast improved throughout the night, peaking at 9.1 during the 11:00-11:30pm ET and 11:30-11:55pm half-hours. ABC for the second consecutive Finals game topped all broadcast nets for the night and earned its highest Sunday numbers in the male 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 demos in more than two years. Lakers-Celtics Game Two also marked ABC's highest-rated and most-viewed NBA Finals Game Two since Pistons-Lakers in '04, which earned a 10.7 rating, 11,563,000 HHs and 16,129,000 viewers (THE DAILY).

TNT: Turner Sports President David Levy, in a Q&A with MULTICHANNEL NEWS' R. Thomas Umstead, said of TNT's NBA Playoffs coverage, which had a 11.1% ratings increase over '07, "I think you had everything: You had the league's biggest stars, you had an exciting, lengthy series." Levy added Turner had "over 3 million live streams during the Western Conference Finals" (MULTICHANNEL NEWS, 6/9 issue).
