In Indianapolis, Mike Wells reports the Pacers have hired former NBAer SAM PERKINS as VP/Player Relations, where he will "mentor players" to help end the Pacers' off-court problems. Perkins: "I'm aware of the things that went on. True, it's not all their faults. There's a lot [of] reasons for some of the stuff, but there's no excuse for it." The Pacers "believe Perkins can relate to the players because he spent 15 years in the NBA." Meanwhile, Pacers Sports & Entertainment President JIM MORRIS said that VP/Team Development KATHY JORDAN is no longer with the franchise (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 6/10).
FRANCHISES: The 76ers have signed Senior VP & Assistant GM TONY DILEO and Dir of Player Personnel COURTNEY WITTE to multi-year contract extensions. DiLeo has been with the 76ers since '90, while Witte joined the team prior to the '98-99 season (76ers)....The AHL Grand Rapids Griffins promoted MATT BATCHELDER to Dir of Ticket Sales, JOHN HOFFA to Group Sales Manager and RICH MEYERS to Dir of Game Operations. KEVIN CURNOW was named Marketing & Season Ticket Account Manager (Griffins).
