Free Astros-Pirates Tickets Go Fast
In Pittsburgh, Dejan Kovacevic reports the 2,500 tickets for tonight's Astros-Pirates game that were reduced to being free as a result of a promotion that "called for a $1 discount for each run scored in the four-game series" against the Cardinals were "scooped up within 10 minutes of the online sale yesterday morning" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 6/4). The Pirates scored 27 total runs in the Cardinals series, making the $24 left and right field seats free (THE DAILY).

FIXING A LEAK? In Denver, Mike Klis reports the Buccaneers are seeking "approximately $7[M] in bonuses" from former NFLer Jake Plummer "in exchange for his retirement." The team argues that Plummer's retirement "meant he did not fulfill the contract they acquired from the Broncos." Two NFL sources said the Buccaneers' grievance hearing against Plummer will be heard in about two weeks. The Broncos have "officially joined the grievance" but are not seeking money from Plummer (DENVER POST, 6/4).

IN THE STARS: In Chicago, Luis Arroyave reports Chicago's Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) franchise will be called the Red Stars "in honor of the four red stars on Chicago's flag." The Red Stars' logo features a fifth star to represent the team, and the team colors will be light blue, red, white and navy blue. The name Red Stars accumulated the most votes in a "Name the Team" sweepstakes that began in March with 10 potential names (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/4).
