CBS Hires NBA's Steve Herbst To Run College Sports Network

Herbst Headed To CBS
CBS Sports hired STEVE HERBST from the NBA to run its CBS College Sports Network. Herbst will be Exec VP & GM of the channel, which is in about 25 million homes. Herbst had been GM of the NBA’s cable channel, NBA TV, a net he helped launch in '99. He had been with the league since '89, but decided not to move with the channel to Atlanta late last year, when news first leaked that the channel’s operations were moving to the city where Turner would take over its operations. Herbst will report to CBS News and Sports President SEAN MCMANUS. He replaces TONY PETITTI, who moved over to run the MLB Network. Petitti had been Exec VP & Exec Producer for CBS Sports, which oversaw the channel. CBS College Exec VP/Content TIM PERNETTI also was a finalist for the CBS College job opening. “[Steve’s] leadership and experience in the cable and sports television industry will move CBS College Sports Network to a new level as we continue to grow the network as an asset across all CBS businesses,” McManus said.
