MLB All-Star Game To Feature Ceremony Honoring Hall Of Famers
By Eric Fisher, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
MLB this afternoon will announce several planned elements for the July 15 All-Star Game at a press conference at its HQs, including an elaborate pre-game celebration involving the group of living Baseball HOFers, the return of the pre-game Red Carpet Parade for the fourth straight year, and environmental initiatives pursued with the aid of the Natural Resources Defense Council. The planned recognition of the enshrined players first came to light earlier this year after MLB Commissioner Bud Selig wrote back to several members of Congress pressing him for a reversal of the January decision to end the annual Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown after 68 years. "This year at the All-Star Game in New York’s own Yankee Stadium, we will be featuring a tribute to all the living Hall of Famers, bringing as many as possible to New York for this historic event," Selig wrote in part. Among those participating in today’s event are Baseball HOFer Frank Robinson, MLB President & COO Bob DuPuy, MLB Exec VP/Business Tim Brosnan and Baseball HOF Chair Jane Forbes Clark.
