Showtime Grabs Rights To Weekly "Inside The NFL" Series

On-Air Talent For Showtime's "Inside
The NFL" To Be Named In July
"Inside the NFL" will air on Showtime beginning with the '08 season. The show, which will be co-produced by CBS Sports and NFL Films, will premiere on September 10 at 9:00pm ET and air every Wednesday until the week after Super Bowl XLIII. HBO dropped the show following the '07 seasons after 31 years (CBS). The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Nordyke & Gough report while on-air talent is not expected to be announced until July, hosts are "likely to include at least one person from CBS Sports." Other hosts "could come from other networks." NBC's Bob Costas and Cris Collinsworth worked for the show while it was on HBO, but neither is "expected to return." Nordyke & Gough note the Showtime deal was "made possible by CBS Sports' long relationship with the NFL" and by CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus and Showtime execs. Showtime Networks Chair & CEO Matthew Blank said "Inside the NFL" will be a "perfect fit with our original scripted series and sports programming" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 6/4). DAILY VARIETY's John Dempsey writes the "assumption is that the show will draw liberally on CBS' group of NFL analysts," as Showtime is "counting on the byplay of the analysts to make the new season of 'Inside the NFL' an audience lure" (DAILY VARIETY, 6/4).
