Fox' NASCAR Coverage Up 2% Through 13 Races, First Increase Since '05

Fox Sees Increase In NASCAR TV
Ratings For First Time Since '05
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series coverage on Fox through 13 races this season has risen for the first time since '05, posting a 5.7/12 national average rating (9.4 million viewers), up 2% over last season's 5.6/13 (9.3 million viewers). Additionally, viewership for 11 out of the 13 races was ahead of or equal to '07. Fox' NASCAR coverage this season is averaging a 6.5 for the male 35-54 demo, up 5% from a 6.2 last season, and a 5.4 in males 25-54, up 2% from a 5.3 in '07 (Fox). However, the net's NASCAR coverage is down 7% among males 18-34 and level with last season among males 18-49 (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 6/3).

USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM: TNT takes over Sprint Cup coverage for the next six weeks beginning with Sunday's Pocono 500, and BRANDWEEK's Barry Janoff reported Turner Sports this week launched RaceBuddy, a free interactive service on NASCAR.com that will "enable visitors to choose from among five live camera angles, interact with other visitors and send questions to TNT's on-air personnel during races." RaceBuddy's "highlight is an option that enables viewers to watch races online from one of four distinct views: Battle Cam (on-track action), Pit Cam, In-Car Cam (viewers can select from among several drivers) and Race Robo (action viewed from remote locations)." Visitors to the site also can select "Mosaic, which puts all four camera options on-screen" simultaneously (BRANDWEEK.com, 6/2).
