The Maryland Jockey Club (MJC) Thursday officially named former Cloverleaf Enterprises CEO TOM CHUCKAS as President & CEO in charge of Laurel Park and Pimlico. Chuckas, who since May 1 has served as an adviser to Magna Entertainment Corp. Chair FRANK STRONACH, will replace CHRIS DRAGONE, who earlier this month was fired after less than six months in the position. It is not know whether Dragone or MJC Senior VP & Associate GM DWAYNE YUZIK will remain with the company (John Scheinman, WASHINGTON POST, 5/30).

GAME ON: Yahoo Sports VP & GM JIMMY PITARO has added oversight of Yahoo Games to his responsibilities. Yahoo Games features a wide variety of online games, reviews and gaming news. This is the third area of major oversight at Yahoo for Pitaro, who ran the portal's music area before moving to sports in October '06 (Eric Fisher, SportsBusiness Journal).

EXECS: The Blues have extended through the '09-2010 season the contract of Senior VP & GM LARRY PLEAU. The team also hired former Stars GM DOUG ARMSTRONG as VP/Player Personnel. Armstrong will assume the GM duties beginning in 2010 (Blues)....The MLB Rangers have hired Tigers VP/Communications ROB MATWICK as Exec VP/Ballpark Operations, effective June 16 (Rangers)....NLL Chicago Shamrox President CONNIE KOWAL, whose contract with the team expires this week, will leave the team to "pursue other opportunities" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/29)....SMI CFO & Treasurer BILL BROOKS has added Vice Chair to his title (SMI)....Schutt Sports, Inc. has named RANDY HERNANDEZ VP/Operations (Schutt Sports)....Crimson Tide Sports Marketing has promoted Associate GM JIM CARABIN to GM (Learfield Sports).
