Celtics Eyeing 10-15% Increase In
Ticket Prices For Next Season |
Celtics President Rich Gotham Thursday said that the Celtics for the '08-09 season are "eyeing a [10-15%] increase in ticket prices," according to Scott Van Voorhis of the BOSTON HERALD. However, no decision on the prices will be made "for a few months." The number of Celtics season-ticket holders has "soared by 40[%]" since the team last summer traded for F Kevin Garnett and G Ray Allen. The Celtics now are "talking about capping the number of season tickets at about 70[%]" of TD Banknorth Garden's 18,600-seat capacity, a "number that front-office executives expect to reach soon." The team's "season-ticket waiting list numbers in the thousands." The Celtics, "borrowing a page from the Red Sox, ... have begun holding back a thousand or so tickets to be sold before each game," and fans "compete in a lottery for the chance to buy one of these tickets, a tactic used to screen out scalpers." Gotham: "When you reach a sold-out state, the challenge is to stay connected to the fans who don’t have season tickets. It certainly has been a change in our mindset in regards to managing ticket inventory" (BOSTON HERALD, 5/23).
