Penguins To Open Arena For Jumbotron Viewing Of Games One, Two

Penguins Hosting Viewing Party For Stanley
Cup Game One At Mellon Arena

The Penguins for Saturday's Game One and Monday's Game Two of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Red Wings, which will be played in Detroit, will open Mellon Arena to fans and show the games "on the arena's Jumbotron, which will be lowered closer to the ice for better viewing," according to Mark Belko of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. There will be "video highlights and the usual fan-pumping music during stoppages in play," and the "horn will sound when the Penguins score." Concessions also will "be open and souvenirs will be sold." Tickets will cost $5 for the general admission seating, and all proceeds will benefit the Mario Lemieux Foundation for cancer and neonatal research. Doors will open at 7:00pm ET, an hour before game time. Penguins President David Morehouse said that the team decided to open the arena "based on the success of the outdoor venue at Gate 3, where as many as 4,000 fans have shown up to watch both home and away games on a big screen." The Penguins "aren't sure just how many people" will attend the viewings, but Belko notes "at least several thousand could be possible, given the recent crowds outside the arena" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 5/23).
