The CBC's Ratings For NHL Conference
Finals Down 29% From Last Year
The CP reported the CBC's ratings for the NHL Conference Finals were down 29% compared to '07, drawing an average of 1.079 million viewers. The '07 Conference Finals, which included the Senators, attracted an average of 1.51 million viewers. The CBC this year carried eight Conference Finals games, with Game Two of the Flyers-Penguins Eastern Conference Finals series "drawing the highest average attendance at 1.582 million viewers" (CP, 5/21).

UNDER REVIEW: SI.com's Grant Wahl wrote of ESPN2's coverage of yesterday's Champions League final, "Typical nice work by ESPN's Derek Rae, but [AC Milan MF] Clarence Seedorf might want to do a little more preparation before the next time he takes the microphone. Calling [Chelsea MF] Florent Malouda 'whatshisname' in the sixth minute ain't gonna work" (SI.com, 5/21).

GORGING OUT: Gorge Games LLC co-Founder & CEO Joshua Ryan said that the '08 event will appear on all 23 FSN networks. FSN will show "three and a half hours of the games' events," which include adventure racing, kayaking, kiteboarding, mountain biking, outrigger canoeing, riverboarding, running, sailing, skateboarding and windsurfing (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/20).

PIRATES' GOLD: In Pittsburgh, Bob Smizik wrote FSN Pittsburgh "finally got it right this year when it hired Kent Tekulve as its Pirates analyst." Smizik: "If there's a glitch, it's that he is an employee of the Pirates, working as what amounts to a goodwill ambassador for the team. But there's no lack of objectivity in his opinion" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 5/20).
