Schanwald Says Bulls Sold Hundreds Of New
Season Tickets After Landing Top Pick In Draft
The Bulls Tuesday night won the No. 1 pick in June's NBA Draft, and Bulls Exec VP/Business Operations Steve Schanwald yesterday said of the effect on ticket sales, "The phones started jumping as soon as it was announced ... and, quite frankly, haven't stopped ringing. ... We've sold a couple of hundred season tickets in the past 24 hours. Our ticket sales staff was here taking calls until" 10:00pm CT Tuesday night (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/22).

AIR BALL: Spurs Owner Peter Holt said that the NBA Tuesday assured him that another airline carrier would transport the team after Friday's Game Two of the Western Conference Finals against the Lakers and "would also fly them to the rest of their road playoff games." The Spurs Monday spent seven hours on a tarmac in New Orleans after mechanical problems delayed the flight of their Champion Air plane. Holt said that he "made it clear to the league they were done with Champion." The NBA "arranges for the Spurs' carrier, but the team foots the bill" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 5/22).

MLS NOTES: The fledgling Philadelphia MLS franchise, in order to maintain fan interest before their inaugural 2010 season, said that it "plans to sponsor a series of events," including possible trips to see the U.S. men's national team play Argentina at Giants Stadium in June, road trips to see Galaxy-Red Bulls and Galaxy-United games, and possibly the MLS All-Star Game at BMO Field in Toronto. The Philadelphia team also said that by the end of this year it "would like to have a name, colors and logo" (John Smallwood, PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 5/22)....The exhibition match between Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok and the Fire scheduled for May 31 at Toyota Park has been canceled (Illinois DAILY HERALD, 5/21).
