Sonny Vaccaro Takes Aim At NCAA During Speaking Tour

Vaccaro (with Carmelo Anthony)
Blasts NCAA On Speaking Tour
Former Reebok, adidas and Nike exec SONNY VACCARO has been on an “extensive speaking tour in recent months, and has been featured” at Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Duke, UCLA, and the Univ. of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School Of Business, according to Doug Krikorian of the Long Beach PRESS-TELEGRAM. Vaccaro: “I talk about the rights of the young athletes who are so often mistreated by the NCAA. ... I admit it, I’m going after the NCAA. It had a free ride long enough in this country. It has gotten away with so many bad things over the years. What needs most cleaning up in intercollegiate athletics is the NCAA.” Vaccaro “believes a major law suit soon will be instituted to overturn the NBA’s one-year ban.” Meanwhile, Vaccaro said of HBO being set to shoot a movie about his ABCD Camp, “I’m sure the NCAA is just thrilled that HBO is going to do a film on my summer camp and the impact it has had on basketball. And the NCAA can’t do a thing about it. I’m sure if it could it would. Oh, it would love to put me on probation, or deal me the death penalty as it has to several schools over the years. Blessedly, it has no power over me, other than to perpetually aggravate me” (Long Beach PRESS-TELEGRAM, 5/20).
