MLS Sounders To Grant Fan Group Members Voting Rights On GM
Fans who join the fledgling MLS Sounders FC's fan group will "get to vote every four years on whether the club retains" its GM, according to Jose Miguel Romero of the SEATTLE TIMES. Sounders Minority Owner Drew Carey Friday announced the formation of the Sounders Members Association, delivering on his "pledge to involve fans in the decision-making process" of the franchise. The first GM vote, likely for current GM Adrian Hanauer, is set for November 2012. Fans can be "nominated and selected to the Sounders FC Association Council on a yearly basis" if they receive "at least 25 nominations from other association members." The first nominations will be accepted in June. Sounders season-ticket holders will receive free membership in the association, and non-season-ticket holders "can join beginning in June for an annual fee of $125." Benefits include "voting privilege, a membership pin and card, a discount at team shops and an invitation to the annual meeting," which Carey as Chair of the group will host beginning later this year (SEATTLE TIMES, 5/17).
