Lakers' Harris Go-To Guy For Celebs Seeking Staples Center Perks

Jack Nicholson (l) One Of
Lakers Most Famous Fans
Lakers Senior VP/Business Operations Tim Harris is known by entertainment industry insiders as the "go-to guy when celebrities want camera-ready seats" for Lakers games at the Staples Center, according to Wharton & Hiserman in a front-page piece for the L.A. TIMES. Harris: "The entertainment world loves the Lakers. And we love the fact that fans like to see who's coming to the games." Wharton & Hiserman noted the Lakers on most nights "put aside several hundred of the arena's 18,997 seats for corporate sponsors, broadcast partners, the visiting team and VIPs." Harris often "walks through the arena with a bundle of VIP passes in his jacket pocket, tending to the pop culture vibe that makes [the Lakers] unlike any other in professional sports." House seats are distributed by "several well-placed team executives," and VIPs, with a few exceptions, must "pay face value" for seats. Harris handles 70 seats "in the best locations, as well as parking passes and the gold tickets that grant halftime access to the Wachovia Chairman's Room, a small, exclusive bar beneath the stands." The room has "always been the arena's ultimate status symbol." Harris on the gold ticket granting entry to the room: "There are people who care more about this than where they are actually going to sit for the game." Harris added, "We have learned this about celebrities -- they like passes. They like to have a credential hanging there." On celebrities appearing on the video board, Harris said, "It's rare that an agent asks us to put his client on the video board. They couch it in a different way. They say its OK if we do" (L.A. TIMES, 5/18).
