Bush Explains Reasons For
Not Playing Golf Since '03 |
President Bush said he has not played golf since the Iraq war began in '03 out of respect for the families of U.S. soldiers. In an interview with newspaper Politico and Yahoo, Bush said, "I didn't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal." When asked if he thinks MLB is doing enough to combat steroid use and if he supports a blood test for HGH, Bush said, “Yes, look, I think what they need to do is to come to an agreement and to assure fans like me that the sport is clean.” Bush: “I haven't studied all the particulars and all the testing. But I do know they need to get this era behind them quickly.” When asked, if he was an MLB owner again, who he would choose as his first position player and first pitcher, Bush chose Phillies 2B Chase Utley and Blue Jays P Roy Halladay (White House).
