Goydos Discusses Turning Down
Hat Sponsorship On "PTI" |
PGA Tour member Paul Goydos appeared on ESPN’s “PTI” last night and discussed wearing a Long Beach State Univ. baseball cap during last weekend’s The Players. ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser said, “We have been told that you were offered six figures to wear a sponsor’s hat in the final two days of the tournament. Six figures! Nobody would have blamed you if you had done that.” Goydos: “Are you counting decimal points? … I don’t play golf so I can wear a hat. I’m out there competing. I’m thinking about trying to win a golf tournament, not what’s on my hat per se” ("PTI," ESPN, 5/14).
AND AFTER ALL...: Surfer Laird Hamilton has signed a deal with Steve & Barry's for a new surf and skate apparel line called Wonderwall "with every item priced under $15" (SI, 5/19 issue)....LPGA member Michelle McGann has signed an apparel deal with Tommy Bahama in which she will wear the company's clothing during tournaments, exhibitions, clinics and personal appearances (GOLFWEEK, 5/17 issue).
NOTES: Apparel company Affliction will sponsor the July 19 MMA card featuring Fedor Emelianenko-Tim Sylvia at the Honda Center. The event will be known as Affliction Banned, as both UFC and EliteXC "have reportedly banned Affliction gear from their events now that the clothing company is in the fight promotion business" (CP, 5/15)....The Bears are inviting fans to submit digital photos of themselves in a "room in their home decorated with a strong Bears theme" for inclusion in the '08 Bears Pro Shop catalog (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 5/13).
