Bank Of America To Debut First NASCAR-Related TV Spot

Bank of America Monday will launch its first NASCAR-themed commercial in the Charlotte market with a "national release scheduled for later this summer," according to Michael Smith of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The 30-second spot, via BBDO, N.Y., is called "Who's Your Favorite Driver?" and will feature Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kasey Kahne and Martin Truex Jr. In addition to Charlotte, the spot will begin running in Atlanta and Dallas/Ft. Worth during Fox' Sprint Cup broadcasts. It will air nationally on ABC/ESPN beginning in July until the end of the Sprint Cup season in November. Fourteen drivers in all participated in the program, which marks BofA's "first sports-themed spot since the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Games" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 5/12 issue). In Charlotte, Rick Rothacker reports the ad features “footage of drivers in action as well as actors portraying rabid fans” (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/9). Bank of America Senior VP & Motorsports Platform Exec Mike Hargrave said of the ad, “It’s going to be a little unique, a little different, maybe not what you expected from a bank ad. But really our fans inspired this spot. They told us why they’re passionate about NASCAR and their drivers” (Fox Business, 5/9).

Several Teams To Unveil Retro Paint
Schemes At Saturday's Sprint Cup Race
DRIVE DOWN MEMORY LANE: USA TODAY’s Zach Albert reported at least three Sprint Cup teams will unveil “retro paint schemes” during Saturday night's Dodge Challenger 500 at Darlington Raceway. Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 88 Chevrolet driven by Earnhardt will sport a Mountain Dew scheme that “evokes memories of Darrell Waltrip’s early 1980s efforts.” Yates Racing’s No. 28 Ford driven by Travis Kvapil will carry sponsorship from the LaFayette Ford dealership and a “historic paint scheme, reminiscent of Fast Freddie Lorenzen’s cars from the mid-‘60s.” The Woods Brothers’ No. 21 Ford driven by Bill Elliott will feature a “1971 Mercury look” (USA TODAY, 5/8).
