Nissan, Sprint Hope To Capitalize On New Realty Soccer Show
Univision and The Vidal Partnership have teamed to create soccer reality TV series "El Juego Supremo," set to debut this fall on Univision. Nissan and Sprint are exclusive sponsors of the show, Univision's first original branded soccer program. The show will bring together five soccer legends from Mexico and five from the Americas who will assemble and train a team of rookie soccer players. Both Nissan and Sprint will integrate their products throughout the series -- Nissan will feature its Titan and Rogue vehicles, while Sprint will showcase its Motorola walkie-talkie phone and its Samsung Instinct phone (Univision). AD AGE's Laurel Wentz writes "El Juego Supremo" "could become the 'American Idol' of soccer as branded entertainment grows in the U.S. Hispanic market." The show's finale will be a September 27 match in L.A. between the two teams. Meanwhile, Fox Sports en Espanol soon will debut the third season of its "El Reto Final" soccer reality series, which "also was created by Vidal for Nissan and Sprint." Nissan Senior Manager of Media Melissa Adams said that Nissan since "El Reto" debuted in '06 has "seen ratings grow and response to promotions and sweepstakes increase." Adams: "If anything was lacking on Fox, it was the reach. ('El Juego') may seem similar to 'El Reto,' but we think this will be broader and go beyond the core sports enthusiast" (AD AGE, 5/5 issue).
